Luongo to the Oilers? No thanks!

 According to TSN.ca,
Canucks general manager Mike Gillis suggested to the Vancouver Sun on Tuesday that trade talks surrounding goalie Roberto Luongo are picking up steam.
"We have a potential deal in place with one team that has to do something with another player that they have — and it's not who anybody thinks it is — and so we have to wait. (But) we've been offered packages that don't fit what our plan is, what we need," Gillis told the Sun.
Gillis explained how the offers have not suited the Canucks' needs.
"(Teams would offer) excess salary coming back with a [throw-in] player who can't play in our lineup. They say, 'OK, we'll do this, but you've got to take this.' Well, we're not taking it. We've had lots of proposals like that with good pieces that can help us but the other part doesn't help us, and oftentimes they have term attached to them, so we'd just be turning around and buying out a guy.
"I'd rather keep the guy we know, who's a good person."
Last May, Luongo told reporters that he would be willing to waive his no-trade clause if the Canucks asked him to.
Please for the love of god, not to the Edmonton Oilers!

Don't get me wrong here...

"Hey, I drank milk that was a DAY past its expiration date. Now THAT is extreme!"-Kurt Angle

I do think that Luon8o is a pretty good goaltender, especially because he carried the Cancukleheads to back to back President Trophy wins but would you be willing to trade some of the young pieces of the team to a Division rival like Vancouver? Places such as Hockeybuzz, @NHLSourcesSay and
Canucks Army are all talking about Edmonton trading players such as Gagner or MPS, mixed in with other prospects like David Musil or Oscar Klefbom. In a January 7th Mark Spector interview with Steve Tambellini, Steve himself stated that "there is no smoke to the Luongo fire" and that Devan Dubnyk is our #1 guy going forward. So why are these places still talk about it? Because from the outside looking in, the trade does make sense. "Oilers are uncertain on their goalie situation" is a headline we have heard too much.

This year will (hopefully) be a breakout season for Dubnyk. Do I smell Vezina? I wish....

It is fairly evident that Luongo had better statistics last season than Dubnyk did last season, but is Luongo worth trading Sam Gagner or MPS? I say no. Like Dubnyk, the Oilers have been developing Gags and MPS over the last few years and they will be crucial to or future cup run. The last thing the Oilers need is to trade one of these guys, and they blossom into some 80546843210 point scorer and kick the shit out of us for years to come.

I know some people don't think the Oilers can make the playoffs with what they have, but I'd rather see this group get a shot first before trading off key pieces.

Oilers have way too much invested in Dubnyk to take a flyer on aging Luongo with terrible contract. Dubie will be excellent. Patience
