Age of Indifference
Apparently we've been ignoring the website like a red-headed step child, and people actually care. Who knew? Well guess whose back with their first post of 2011 (basically) it's your old pal baggedmilk. Let's do a quick recap on what's been going on, and where the fuck we've been.
This year, I really planned on getting more involved with playoff discussion. I thought that having game day posts for certain playoff series would be good, rather, I found myself not giving two flying fucks about this years playoffs. Instead of sitting down, every night, to watch the playoffs I've been living my life. I don't think there was a final four/conference finals that I could have cared about less, quite frankly. Aside from having Roli turning back the clock in the Tampa Bay vs. Boston series, there has been nothing for me to watch. Yeah, I recap the highlights every morning as I get ready for work, but to be honest, I've been working on other stuff - it's not the Oilers so who cares?
What the hell am I talking about? Let's have a look at what's going on right now in the NHL playoffs. Vancouver made the Stanley Cup finals for the first time since 1994, but if you ask their fans, there was never any doubt. The part I find the funniest (and most annoying) is how Vancouver "fans" rag on Oilers fans for talking about the 2006 Cup run. "Ohh way to talk about a game 7 loss" blah blah shut your fucking mouth. Do they not understand that the closest the Vancouver Canucks have ever been to being prom queen was back in 1994? Do they know they lost that year? Of course they don't, because for the vast majority of the people riding the bandwagon right now, the Vancouver Canucks weren't even on their radar back then. On the brighter side of things, if Vancouver wins, it can be certain that Jeanshorts will jump from his 10th floor balcony and we'll all be rid of him for good.
On the other side of the equation, there's the Roli feel good story. As an Oilers fan, I want to see that old bastard do well, and possibly win a Cup. I don't think it's going to happen this year though. Boston is likely going to take it, and go on to meet Vancouver in the finals. All I can hope for is Boston to show up, and Milan Lucic caves in Alex Burrows' clavicle. Regardless, the Eastern Conference Final had absolutely no lure for me. There's no Boston/Tampa rivalry. Yeah, Tyler Seguin is pretty sweet, but I still think Taylor Hall is the better player, so meh. Tim Thomas looks like a dead ringer for a 1970's cop, which is sweet but whatever. None of this pumps me up enough to watch the games, and for that, my dream of Stanley Cup BCBs died. When you combine the fact that I don't give two fucks about the playoffs this year, and I'd rather not watch games than get pissed off when Vancouver wins - content for the website suffered.
*Le sigh*
If there is a reason to go out and get a celebratory hooker, it's for the city of Winnipeg getting their Jets back. (It's happening this time right?) By all accounts, it looks like this deal is going to happen, and the Thrashers will be relocated to the frozen tundra that is Winnipeg. And while getting another Canadian team on the books IS a reason to celebrate, here in Edmonton we can get pumped knowing that Edmonton will no longer be the worst place for NHLers to play. In fact, with our giant mall and new downtown arena coming, this city might be looking mighty fine when you consider the alternative.
Winnipeg < Edmonton = Hazzah!
Apart from that, the draft is coming up and I do plan on doing some draft coverage. Can you believe that the draft is only a month away? It will be interesting to see who the scouting team goes with. According to Jim Matheson's article this morning, the scouts have come out of their meetings with no clear winner. Surprised? Nope. Less than a month now, and we'll find out for sure.

A few things:
ReplyDeleteYay for more content.
Fuck you Canucks.
Sounds like RNH is Stu's pick but is he really head and shoulders above the rest of the top 5?
Finally, I hope Winnipeg changes the team name to something cold, like the Manitoba Inverted Penis'
"According to Jim Matheson's article this morning, the scouts have come out of their meetings with no clear winner."
ReplyDeleteIf you believe that, I can let you in on a great deal for the High Level bridge.
And yeah, I'm an Oilers hockey watcher too. Don't give two shits about the Canucks, other than the fact that JS will be whining all summer if they win. Soooo...GO CANUCKS!
A far as the playoffs in general, I find it too painful to watch. Every "barn-burner" playoff game only confirms to me how far the Oilers really have to go to be competitive. I mean, who* knew "goaltending", "defence", "scoring" and "compete" were that important?
*Oilers fans
Two new articles in two days?!???!! WOW Lol
ReplyDeleteThe Canucks had a huge fucking party yesterday celebrating the 94 run. Literally the only franchise in the history of sports that celebrates losing. I love it.
ReplyDeleteAnd I'm going to love it even more when they lose in the finals just like Edmonton and Calgary before them. Always a bridesmaid.
I do admire how they burnt the city down even though the lost in 94.
ReplyDeleteSometimes the anonymous comments are the most amusing on this site.
ReplyDeleteLONG LIVE ANONYMOUS!
If Tampa is able to beat both the Flames and the Canucks in the SCF in my lifetime I would be a very happy man. Just sayin.
ReplyDeleteThat's an excellent point. Fuck Roli, Tampa beat Calgary!
ReplyDeleteLOUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU!
