Bonsignore Citizens Brigade: Rangers @ Oilers

By the power of Messier, please let us win a game!

I'm still not quite sure how I feel about Thursdays. On one hand it's pretty sweet because you've gotten the majority of the week over with, and there's usually really good TV shows on that night (The Office, It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia, etc.) But on the other hand Thursday is such a dink tease to the weekend that it might as well be Wednesday. Yeah you're one day closer, but you're still a full day away from being a free man. What does this have to do with hockey? Absolutely nothing.

The Rangers of New York City, New York step into Rexall tonight, looking to bust out of an Oilers-esque slump that's seen them go 2-5-1 in their last 8. I have no idea what's gone wrong for the Rangers but it's a little bit of consolation knowing that teams with lots of fire power and a world class goalie can suck just as badly as an Oilers team that has lost more players to injury than any team ever in the history of professional sports*.

If the Oilers continue to play this garbage brand of hockey they've been bringing to the rink lately then we are going to be in for a long fucking night folks. Henrik Lundqvist is one of the top goalies in the league and the boys are going to need to put more than 20 pucks on the net if they hope to come out of this one with a win. They also need to stop trying to make so many fancy-ass plays and start diving head first into the net, looking for a greasy rebound. No more 4 inch passes, just shoot the god damn puck on the net and create some chances.

Thankfully it looks like Mike Comrie may finally be able to breath just well enough to get some ice time tonight, which should be nothing but positive for this team. And I never thought I'd say this, but I'm actually glad to have Steve Staios back in the line up, if only for the fact that he's played more NHL games than the entire rest of the defense combined. He may be shitty and is still my pick for goat this season, but I'm pretty confident he can at least get the puck out of his own zone, which is saying a lot. On the other side of the coin though both Shawn Horcoff and Laddy Smid are out. So even with Comrie and Staios back it's basically a wash, and we're back to square one.

I would say look for the boys to come out firing tonight after a few road losses, but let's be real here. This team has played with absolutely no fire for the last 2 or 3 weeks. I don't expect anything to change, especially with Souray, Jacques and Stone still on the shelf. I don't know if this team is still hampered with the flu or what, but something's got to give and give soon, otherwise the Oilers will be in the race for Taylor Hall as early January. Which wouldn't be the worst thing in the world, but it's way more fun to watch playoff hockey then to sit there and hope the Oilers ball comes out number one in the draft lottery.

I'm going to go against my better judgement here folks;

jeanshorts prediction: Rangers 4 - Oilers 1. Seriously, I think it's going to be a rough fucking night.

Jesus! How in the fuck are you pulling off a 50 post session on "the other site", whipping up another awesome BCB intro and getting any sort of meaningful work done? Something tells me there's gonna be a shitty edit or two coming out of your shop today.

Oh yeah. "Craig Wark" is a bonafide aids cock.

Can anybody hook a brother out with a link to watch the game...thanks.

Sather looks like the keeper of the crypt.

Jeanshorts And Baggedmilk said...

GAH I WISH I COULD SEE IT!
FUCKING LACK OF INTERNET FEEDS!

Jeanshorts And Baggedmilk said...

All I can tell that is happening right now is the Oilers are down (no surprise), they are getting super out played (again, no surprise) and Khabby is the only reason why it isn't already 4-0(and for a third time, surprise, non.)

Kind of glad I'm not watching another shit fest.

Chamucks Deluxe said...

They've proceeded to refer screening the goalie as "eclipsing the goalie".

Fun Fact: The Rangers are 0-1 when Higgins scores a goal. haha.

hockeystreams.com

Ya gotta pay 5 bucks for the feed with PayPal. For all I know I'm supporting terrorism in Afghanistan. Guess its better than staring at a blank computer and listening to 630 CHED like in the 70's.

Jeanshorts And Baggedmilk said...

I think I'd rather save myself the grief, and just watch the highlights of how fucking horrible they're playing.
I'll still listen to the radio, but at least I can busy myself with something else.

David S said...

Man that Kotalik has a cannon. He's having a great game too. We could sure use a guy like...

Oh yeah. Right.

Jeanshorts And Baggedmilk said...

It's one of those weird fucking things. Obviously in the wake of Big Sexy being hurt for so long we could definitely use a Kotalik on the point for the PP. But outside of that he's just as useless as the rest of the underachieving forwards we already have. So I think at the end of the day we were better off saving money and not resigning him.

David S said...

Rangers 2 for 3 on the PP. Jesus.

David S said...

What kills me is how players blossom when they leave Edmonton. Something tells me Cogliano would be a five year facepalm after we traded him.

Jeanshorts And Baggedmilk said...

Yeah I definitely don't want to lose Cogs because I guarantee he just needs one spark and he's going to start dominating. And he'd absolutely kick the Oilers in the ass if he got moved somewhere.
But I really wouldn't say Kotalik is "blossoming" in New York. He hit his prime well before he donned Oilers silks.
But still, I feel yeah on guys becoming way more valuable after they leave Edmonton.

David S said...

What in the fuck is with Hemsky? Man I love the dude but holy hell that guy has more shitty games than good ones.

Jeanshorts And Baggedmilk said...

I'm hot and cold with that guy at the best of times. I really, really want to praise him like a god but he has so many stretches where he just looks like shit, and he just kind of skates around for the sake of taking a shift, but doesn't do anything. Maybe he'll throw a fancy move in here or there, but doesn't contribute.
He has an assist tonight, and from the way they called it on the radio it sounded like he created the scoring opportunity. But still. He's no Kovalchuck that's for fucking sure.

David S said...

Name two Oilers that are done.

No wait. I'll do it for you.

Ethan Moreau
Fernando Pisani

David S said...

So that's what sustained PP pressure looks like. I almost forgot.

Fuck.

Jeanshorts And Baggedmilk said...

I'm willing to give Pisani a break, considering he's had such horrific luck with injuries.
But there is no scenario I see where bringing back Moreau next year is a good idea.
Ryan Stone showed he was already better suited for 3rd and 4th line duty than both of those guys. If only he didn't skate like his pants were filled with concrete.
If they can teach that boy to skate faster I think we'll have a gem there.

Jeanshorts And Baggedmilk said...

So looks like I'm FINALLY going to be correct on a game score prediction.

Fuck.

David S said...

The Rangers aren't done yet.

Fuck.

Jeanshorts And Baggedmilk said...

PHHHEEWWWW. I was beginning to worry about my prediction there for a second.

My record still remains a sterling 1.000 on the year!

David S said...

Just make it a god damn game for fucks sake.

David S said...

JS, you must be tired. You've been posting your ass off today.

Jeanshorts And Baggedmilk said...

I've been saying the same thing for 3 or 4 years now.
If the Oilers came out every game and played super hard, I'd be okay with them losing. Well I'd still be pissed but it would be fucking way easier to swallow then these garbage efforts for 8 straight games.
It's not even fun to watch anymore.

Jeanshorts And Baggedmilk said...

I'm hungry and horny. But not that tired. It's still pretty early though.

If only there was a way for me to make money but posting things on the internet. Some kind of website. Perhaps some kind of ad revenue.

Jeanshorts And Baggedmilk said...

Don't be surprised if you see this place littered with porn ads within the next 6 months.

Jeanshorts And Baggedmilk said...

Seriously how fucked up is it that losing Ryan Stone to injury is a HUGE burden to this team?
I know Tambo's hands are tied but man, I think it's time to try and collect a few pieces this team could actually use.

David S said...

I thought the plan was to have every porn site on the internet with an ad here. Man you guys would be swimming in cash. Not to mention all the free porn you could spank to.

Oh and the game was winnable by my estimation. Rangers didn't exactly have a powerhouse offense.

Makes me cringe the next time we play a good team.

David S said...

I think Souray was the tipping point. Same thing happened last year when we lost Visnovsky. We're so thin that one solid veteran out of the lineup is the difference between OK and shit. And I'm sorry man, but Pisani has dwindled to borderline useless.

Also, this team has gone away from their physical game, which tells me they haven't completely overcome the flu. Hitting a guy takes alot of energy.

Jeanshorts And Baggedmilk said...

I don't think I'm going out on a limb here when I say that 5 or so of the games we've lost in the last 2 weeks were winnable.
Shouldn't have lost to the Canucks.
Shouldn't have lost to the Bruins.
Shouldn't have lost to the Islanders
Shouldn't have lost tonight to the Rangers.

It's been fucking ridiculous. We should be challenging for the West right now if the boys would have brought their A-game with them. The same game they showed over the first 10 or so.

David S said...

You're right JS. But I think they didn't have an A game to bring. The flu hit these guys alot harder than we've been led to believe (when was the last time YOU got over the flu in a week?). Add in the loss of Souray and Stone (I'll give you that we miss his physical presence) and you get what we got.

Anyways, I just finished downloading GI JOE Rise of the Cobra. It pains me that I'm going to get more enjoyment from a movie produced by Hasbro that I got from our team tonight.

Fuck.

Jeanshorts And Baggedmilk said...

I know they had the odds stacked against them for sure.
But it's just so hard to watch a team like the Bruins or the Canucks get a win when they clearly were playing horribly. The Oilers just happened to be playing even worse. UGH.

David S said...

Quinn sounded like he was ready to take his belt off and administer an old fashioned whuppin'.

Jeanshorts And Baggedmilk said...

Fuck man I'm completely sold on Kevin Karius tonight.
He's bang on when he's talking about how when we started out, the Oilers had a banger on every line and it helped even things out.
Now we only have a handful of guys that actually throw checks, and they're all on the 4th line.

David S said...

BTW. Good work on the site JS. You've been busting your nuts lately. Maybe Dakin, Rusty or Towel Boy will give you some help in the next while. I'd add BM to that list, but oh well.

David S said...

I almost forgot. Smid's out too.

MOTHER OF GOD!!!!!!

David S said...

Karius is a straight up dude. I run into him once in a while. Most under rated sports guy in town.
